Activity localization lets you create locale-specific, or localized, versions of a learning activity via API. Localized versions are created as children of the parent activity they are based on and feature a subset of activity properties available for content translation.

This article offers an overview of how localized versions of an activity are created and the management of localized versions in the platform.

Things to Note:

  • Activity localization is enabled for Versioning accounts with at least one active locale.
  • While scheduled activities are supported in localization workflows, events connected to a scheduled activity are not currently supported.

Create localized version of an activity

Localized version of an activity are created using the Course Endpoint in API v3. When the API is run, localized versions will be added to the locale dropdown in the versioning header of the activity.

A localized version of an activity can be created for each active language locale in your account.

Manage locale-specific versions

When a localized version of an activity is created, a parent-child relationship is created between the original, parent locale and a localized version, or child locales.

Select the locale drop-down if you need to return to the original, parent locale or to switch a different child locale.

Once a new child locale is added, the parent locale is highlighted by a star icon in the locale drop-down.

Each child locale can be managed independently in the versioning workflow. Meaning each child locale is created as a versioned activity that can be edited, updated, published, and archived independently of the original, parent locale.

Once a child locale is added, the original Parent locale gives you the option to bulk publish updates to multiple locales.
